We’re already more than halfway through competition season—time flies, doesn’t it? So, what’s next? While many studios and dancers are gearing up for Nationals, there’s still the rest of summer to fill with something meaningful and exciting. Don’t let the summer slip away into boredom! The Platinum National Dance Competition has the perfect antidote: the Platinum Summer Dance Academy.
This five-day sleepaway intensive, nestled in the stunning North Carolina Smoky Mountains just minutes from Asheville, is more than a summer activity—it’s an unforgettable experience. Hosted at Western Carolina University, dancers will stay in on-campus dorms with roommates, creating a home-away-from-home vibe. The friendships formed during this week will go beyond just the intensive—they’ll become lasting connections that dancers will treasure for years to come.
Each day kicks off with breakfast together before diving into a packed schedule of dance classes. From Jazz and Contemporary to Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap, Musical Theatre, and more, dancers will explore a variety of styles taught by a top-notch faculty of dance masters. Learning from instructors outside of their home studio is a fantastic way for dancers to broaden their skills and perspectives.
Meals are shared as a group, with plenty of time to swap stories about favorite classes or inspiring moments from the day. Afternoons bring even more classes, and evenings are dedicated to rehearsals for the Closing Show. Each dancer will be part of a piece choreographed by the event’s esteemed faculty, working alongside their new friends to create something original and magical.
But it’s not all about the classes—this intensive is packed with bonding activities, too. From games and movie nights to a pizza party, the fun never stops. A highlight of the week? Dressing up and attending a local musical production—a night to remember!
Our first Platinum Summer Dance Academy in 2024 was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. The dancers left with renewed inspiration, positivity, and a network of friendships that continued to grow throughout the year at other events.
